Fuel pump not powering up

Had a small fire under the hood. I believe we have replaced all the damaged components, but here is my problem.

When I turn the key to the ON position, I don't hear the fuel pump power up. I have checked all fuses and relays and also the inertia switch. Everything is good there. I had to replace the fuel rail, injectors and the fuel rail wiring harness. Checked the connected on the fender wall where the harness plugs in and it appears not to be damaged.

What other components can I check for damage? Wiring harness along the firewall? What can I do to troubleshoot this. I am familiar with testing with a DVM.

I don't believe that this is the problem. I have checked it physically and don't see any visable damage. I don't have any info on testing this module. I believe that the fuel pump relay is not energizing and I can't pinpoint why. I know that the relay is energized by the PCM power relay. What tells the PCM power relay to energize?

Go to the ineria switch and see if you have power for 2 seconds when the key is turned on.

You also need to test the driver as previously stated for power as well. Looking at it is not a test. Powers need to be verified. I would start there before proceeding to the relay and controls. The relay is not a common failure as the driver, and pump are common.

I have a 1996 ford escort, that recently broke down on me. I was driving and the positive terminal fell off my battery causing it to shake and sputter then stall and not restart. I discovered it was not getting any fuel to it when I spray starting fluid in it it starts. So here's what all I have done since. I replaced the fuel pump but it doesn't seem to be getting power to it because it still wont start. I wired the old one to my battery directly and the old pump came on, so I am guessing that something is disrupting the power to my pump, so I was wondering if I could just wire my new pump to a switch and turn it on and off manually when ever I drove it? Or what else could be causing it to not get power, I checked the fuses and the fuel reset and everything seems okay, I tested the relays under the driverside dash and they seem ok, I am confused and what else to do?

Did you check the Inertia switch in the trunk?
Are you using a fuel pressure gauge?

When that terminal disconnected your system was likely subjected to over-voltage. This is hard on electronic parts. Coulda blew somethin.

Possible Causes:

Inertia fuel shutoff (IFS) switch needs to be reset
Open FPDM ground circuit
Open circuit to FPDM PWR RLY
Open FPDM PWR circuit
Open or shorted FPM circuit (engine should start)
Damaged IFS switch
Damaged FPDM PWR RLY
Damaged FPDM
Damaged PCM
Also for Mustang:
Open B+ circuit to the constant control relay module (CCRM) pin 11
Open ground to CCRM pin 18
Damaged CCRM

I have checked the fuel reset switch and it is in the down position, I have not used a fuel pressure gauge because I am not getting any fuel, because I am not getting power to the pump. What would be causing me to not get power, and can I just run a new wire with a toggle switch in line from the pump directlly o the battery?

If you can locate the fuel pump relay check it for ground with key on/crank. If no ground then you could run a permanent/switchable ground. This in more in keeping the system as designed.

Hi.

Just recently (two days ago) I experienced the same issue. Started my vehicle. Made it out the driveway and it cut off. Same scenario as Richardgriffin01.
Replaced pump. Old pump was still functional, turns out no power to fuel pump.
Checked IFS. Reset it and reset it again. All fuses are intact. Looked aimlessly for the location of the actual fuel pump relay. On this specific model, it's 'supposed' to be located in the center console underneath the ashtray, but I honestly don't see it.
Can anyone possibly direct me there? Where is it exactly?

Thanks

The fuel pump is in the fuel tank, and the relay is under the hood in the power distribution box. As far as the relay, you can just switch it with another one with the same part number to see if that helps. Also, I want you to do the same with the EEC relay to see if that makes a difference.

As far as checking the fuel pump, you need to check it for pressure. Here is a how to for checking it.

https://www.2carpros.com/how_to/how_to_check_fuel_pressure.htm

Let me know what you find. Also, check to see if the engine is getting spark to the plugs. If you lost both fuel pressure and spark, the EEC relay is most likely the problem.

This 96 Ford Escort, 1.9 engine, with 139023 miles, was running fine, never had any problems. All of the sudden will not start. Somebody told me to check the FUEL INJECTION relay. I removed the relay and jumped the 12v side to the other side, and the car started ok. I put a NEW relay, no dice. For good measure, I even replaced the FUEL PUMP relay, still nada.
As long as I keep the jumper across the fuel injection relay the car starts ok. Only thing is that it will not turn OFF. I have checked the rollover safety switch and all fuses.
Thanks for any help.

Have you made sure that the rollover safety interlock is working proprerly. This is usually behind a panel inside the right rear fenderwell. I've had to push the red reset button a few times on mine already.

We started out with a no fuel situation. We replaced the fuel pump and fuel pump relay to find out that wasn't the problem. After actually testing the fuel pump relay and finding out that EEC powers the fuel pump relay, We tested for voltage for the EEC relay and no voltage from the ignition was present. The engine cranks but will not start. I've checked the fuses and they seem good. I spoke with a friend about it and he thinks it could be a solenoid fuse link but I can't find one.

ANY IDEAS
