I replaced my alternator and now all my lights and electrical is going nuts. Battery was dead, jumped battery to get it started and as long as I leave the charger boosting the battery my car runs fine, but when I disconnect the charger everything goes crazy. Do I maybe need a new battery, did I do the job right can you help me make sure?

Good evening,

You have a low voltage from the battery. I would start by charging the battery and see if it starts okay.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-charge-your-car-battery

Chances are you will be replacing the battery.

Here is how to change out the alternator correctly in the diagrams below. Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know what you find.

Hi there, I am Danny.

On a scale of 1-10 I would give it a 5. You will need a serpentine belt tool to remove and install belt and a basic set of metric tools. Disconnect battery cable first, then remove belt. The alternator is held on by a few bolts and electrical connections. Attached is a tutorial explaining the process. Hope this helps and feel free to ask any questions if you feel like tackling this!

I attached the process to replace the alternator. Unfortunately, they don't list tools needed so this is going to be something that you have to try to find out what you need. However, from what I remember, you can do this job with a basic set of wrenches and sockets.

Sorry I can't give more detail about the tools.

Not sure of litre size of engine? You may have to access generator from passenger side wheel well. Safely raise and support the vehicle, remove tire, remove splash lining.

You need to take battery connections loose.

Recheck your wiring job first if it wasn't soldered together with shrink tube then re do it like that. Then check the fuses in pic you probably blew a fuse for it.

Because the battery light is the charge indicator light and it means you aren't charging your battery

My guess is v6 and the right cv axle shaft is called a half shaft. It requires complete removal to replace the alternator. And needs a new axle nut torqued to roughly 200 lb/ft if I remember. Something that most 1/2 drive torque wrenches (common biggest size for sale in most tool places such as Sears) don't go up to.

Have to remove axle first. Use 18" extension with 13 mm socket. Use same setup for removing top alternator bolt. Extension fits between exhaust hanger and frame. Remove plastic shield behind axle (2 clips and hooked onto steering rack) and alternator bracket to engine (3 bolts). The alternator must be twisted a few ways to fit between the crank pulley, block and frame but it will fit without having to remove exhaust. Will take around 2 hours for the job
