Four cylinder front wheel drive, automatic, 190,000 miles.

I am trying to locate the fuel pump relay in this car, and I have no luck whatsoever. Is it the little black box under the column or a white one to the left of the brake pedal? Or is it under the hood somewhere? Tested the fuel pump directly, not going through relay and it works, so the relay is bad or something else, but what? Please help, need to go to work.

Hello,

Here is a guide to help you test the relay and the location below. The fuel pump relay is located below the center of the instrument panel.

If okay, check inertia fuel shutoff switch, left rear of passenger compartment.

Check out the diagrams (below). Please run this test and get back to us.

Cheers

I got it! It is my dad's car. He is the genius that forgot to tell me there is an extra switch for the fuel, aka the inertia switch you were talking about. I went to the back of the car and was like Hmm, red buttons! I love to push red buttons! Click! I pushed the button. Hmm, let me try to start it. Pumps a kicking, hooray! Thanks for the help, without you telling me about the inertia switch I would have gone insane!

My car started fine, drove the bottom of the hill, and as I started to make a right it sputtered two or three time and turned off. It turns over smoothly. There is definitely a half tank (I checked manually). I did a little research and as far as I know nothing that could have tripped the safety cutoff. My question(s) is where is the "red button " and should I check anything else? Thanks!

Hi,

There is an inertia switch but they do not need to be reset unless you hit a big bump. Follow this guide it should help you:

Let me know what you find.

Best, Ken
