Heater problem
1996 Dodge Ram V8 Four Wheel Drive Automatic 158000 miles

do I have to discharge the AC unit to replace the heater core in my 96 dodge ram? If so, why? Is the AC unit in the way or is a safety thing?

background to common problem: I only have lukewarm heat. I have changed the thermostat and hoses, and flushed the coolant system. I also have a gurgling sound coming from the area of the core during acceleration.

thanks for any help.
