When I replaced the PCM in the car it had oil in it. Now the oil has traveled through the wiring and for sure has reached the OBDII connector.
The problems I am having :
While driving the car the speed odometer will just stop working. Sometimes the dash gauges will go crazy when the headlights are turned on. Recently the car started missing and hesitating.
Is there a way to remove the oil from the wiring without doing a total rewrire on the car?
Do you
have the same problem?

First check for spark on that cylinder, if thers spark its not the crank sensor.

Also check the compression, the valves could be messing up on it or maybe the cylinder is worn,

also a cylinder balance test would be great to find out if the injector is putting out too much fuel or not enough.

Electrical problem
1998 Dodge Neon 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual

I keep getting a multi missfire (Generic) and OL-Fault Fuel sys-1 after driving on the highway for about 5-10 minutes. Ive also had the temp guage go crazy and spike all the way up and then go right back down. I might try to check the connection at the temp sender and/or replace it I was told that if the temp is not being read correctly it might give the engine the wrong info for fuel curves and that when the PCM gets a multi missfire code it puts the car in a limp in mode which might set the temp at a specific number even if its really reading wrong. Ive run the OBD scanner while driving and the temp stays at 199 Deg when the OL-Fault occurs and it reads multi missfire. Any ideas on where to start would be appriciated. The engine in a rebuilt with a Pacesetter header, MSD coil, flowmaster exhaust, and the Mopar EGR block Plate, (the EGR is still connected and to the best of my knowledge it does not send any data to the OBD). It has a new fuel pump and new plug wires and Ive tried 3 diff type plugs. Also while at highway speed and when the code is given the engine still runs great no hestitation or rough acceleration. Im also getting a bit of carbon at the exhaust tip like its running rich. Could this be a bad up stream or down O2 sensor? Or is it the EGR being blocked. Also im thinking of getting the Mopar PCM only because it a little cheaper than the AFX and its a bit more mild on the changes. I do know that it disregards the EGR and downstream o2 reading. Dont know if that would help with the ol fault/ missfire or not. Im just hoping that someone has had the same issue and can guide me in the right direction. Thanks for any help.

Car has a cylinder misfire. Was originally cylinder three. Replaced spark plugs, wires and replaced coil pack with a known working coil pack with no change. Other then cylinder three misfire has moved to cylinder two. I do not understand why cylinder three went away and now it is cylinder two. Tested compression and all four cylinders are 190 PSI. Thought maybe the timing belt stretched a tooth. Took pictures but it looks like it is in time but I could be wrong. Does not have a misfire in fourth gear. Only in fifth gear and it starts when you get to forty five to fifty mph.

Valve timing looks okay, have you checked for any vacuum leaks at the inlet manifolds yet?

You say the coil is known good. I would still suspect an electrical issue as with engine speed compression pressure increases considerably and a problem with the ignition system will be the first thing that is compromised. Basically electricity is lazy, as the cylinder pressure increases, the spark has to work harder to jump the plug gap and ignite the mixture, if there is a path to earth that is of less resistance it will go that way. Basically that is what an electrical misfire is, a short to an easy earth under pressure. Fuel issues often are there all the time, probably a live data read with a high end scanner will show electrical activity that will indicate a short/misfire in the ignition system.

Yea, I swapped the coil from my Neon to my mother’s Neon and her Neon drives with no problems. I will swap the coil and plug wires from her Neon to mine and see what happens.

2.0L dohc engine bored out.20 over, steel sleeved, Je pistons, Crane.012 cams, Extrude honed intake, Walboro fuel pump, Fidanza adjustable timing gears, stock fuel injectors, stock computer. For some reason the car only runs on three cylinders but has spark in all four and fuel in all four, my question is, is it the computer or a wiring problem or a timing issue?

Check the compression on the cylinder that's misfiring

Engine misfiring can be caused by worn or fouled spark plugs, a weak spark (weak coil, bad spark plug wire), loss of compression, vacuum leaks, anything that causes an unusually lean fuel mixture (lean misfire), an EGR valve that is stuck open, dirty fuel injectors, low fuel pressure, or even bad fuel.

Okay, thus is sounding like an electrical issue. Hopefully this will narrow down the problem some.

Car chugs when at idle, also when gas pedal depressed, why? Highway speeds the car runs perfect. When it chugs the check engine light flashes.

If the check engine light is on, there is a trouble code stored in the computer. You need to have it scanned to identify where the problem is coming from. Most nationally recognized parts stores will scan it for free. Have that done and let me know what you find.

Hi there,

This may be a stick injector that clears up after a few min of operation, try a good dose of injector cleaner and replace the fuel filter.

I have a cylinder 1 and 3 misfire and i've replaced the spark plugs, wires, coil pack, and valve cover gaskets. When I drive the car white smoke comes out of the exhaust pipe and when I slow down or stop the car shuts off.

Sounds like a blown headgasket or cracked/warped head.

Have a compression test done on all cylinders and compare them, if 1 and 3 are lower or erratic then chances are the problem is as I listed.
