My wifes Grand Caravan will randomly down shift while driving. She has to pull over and turn the engine off. When she starts it back up the transmission runs fine until the next time it occurs. We had the transmission looked at by a local tranmission repair shop who says the transmission is fine. They believe it is the computer (ECU?) Causing the problem. I was about to purchase a refurbished ECU when I discovered there is also a TCU (Transmission Control Module) module under the hood. Do you have any recommendations before I start spending money on which module is the real culprit?

You should have a check engine light on
get the codes cycle key on off on off on get read the codes in odometer area or check engine will flash the code
most likely speed sensor and or solenoid pack
codes will help in determining where to go and start
