DASHBOARD LIGHTS WENT OUT

The dash lights are out on my instrument cluster. I checked the fuses and they look ok. I called my local nissan dealer and spoke to someone who said that the light or lights may have blown out and to remove the instrument cluster and change the bulb or bulbs. I read in my car manual, reference to fusible links that may be out. What are these and how do they work? What do you think needs to be done to fix the problem?

Check the dimmer control and ensure it is not turned to minimum.
Check taillights and if they are not working, the problem should be with the fuses or light switch.
