My car starts very hard when the outside temp is below 40 degrees, if it starts at all. But, it runs like a top. Starts fine when it is warm.

Ive found that, if I depress the gas pedal to the floor and hold it before I even turn the key on, crank for about 10 seconds, wait, then crank it again, gradually letting my foot off the gas, it will cough or back fire, and start. The dealer wanted to send the injectors out to be blasted clean. ($1200). But Im not sure if I buy that.
