99 chev tracker w/2.0
Recently bought used. 125,000 miles. Threw both chains while barely moving, engine idling. I cant find out if its an interference motor, the internet hasnt been any help.
Have valve cover off and front timing cover off. Damage:
1 cam sprocket lost about 7 teeth, other ok.
Idler gear, the big one that reduces the cam speed, broken.
Crank gear, one tooth missing.
Upper guide ripped in two.
Upper tensioner broken.
Small hole about 1/4" by 1/2" in front cover, easily patched.
And of course both chains.
The crank turns by hand with no apparent problems.
Cams turn easy, lifters and valves appear to pop back up
like they should. Extremely clean inside motor. This is my daughters car and she loves it. Cold air, 4wd, good on gas, easy to park.
Interference motor, yes or no?
About $400 for parts, proceed and purchase?
Will JB weld work ok on the hole? Or use something else? I know to bevel the edges,
The parts guy said none of the parts come with a timing mark diagram for reassembly. Need this. I have a thing about Haynes and Chilton manuals, they only show the other model or engine size, never what I have. Hope I didnt forget anything, great site!
have the same problem?
