98 Chevy Tahoe shimmy

98 tahoe 117k front end shimmys when I hit a pot hole or dip in road, make a banging noise, like the steering column is loose. It has been getting worse for about 5 months. (Steering column is not loose)

Check the steering linkage, suspension, tires, (for wear), any bushings and shocks for looseness and play.
