Where is the fuel filter .I am changing the fuel pump. Truck acts like it is out of gas./Should I also change the fuel line for the fuel pump? Can recommend a quiet fuel pump. Thank you tim

Please answer my questions as I presented them to you. The truck has 225k on it and I didnt think putting 300 into it was really an expense at all. The fuel pump has never been changed and the filter only once. No pressure test required as it acts as if it running out of gas as I drive. Start-up are as if there is gas at all. Easy to define the problem without testing.
I am seeking a quieter runnning fuel pump. BUt would like the best one also. The hoises that I referred to are only the ones from the pump itself to itys juntions. Flexible hoses.. Can you recommend a desired fuel filter?

If you owned this vehicle originally and it didn't come with the noise, I recommend only OEM parts.

The gas filter under the driver seat has two steel lines going into this can. On the end of the steel lines (both of them --they have an o-ring. I had AutoZone and O'reily's tell me that it does not need these. I afraid I do not believe them. How is right and if needed to I need to go to the dealer.

Hi Tim,

I am not sure what o-rings you are referring to. Can you get a picture and that will help explain? I am not aware of any so I would think they are correct. I attached the process and they don't mention them either.

The fuel filter is located on the driver side under the passenger door on the inside of the frame. Here is a guide

Should be under drivers side along frame rail and a couple wrenches should do the trick.1 to hold filter nut and the other to break line loose/unscrew.

i have a 6.2 litre diesel. I changed the fuel filter and mechanical fuel pump and have fuel to the pump and filter but it still wont start. What should I do

Check fuel pressure to ensure there are no restrictions. If pressure is OK then check spark at the plugs, make sure it is bright blue spark.

Sorry didn't realize it was diesel.

Test the glow plugs first

Pull the electrical connector wires off to expose access to the glow plugs. Removing one plug at a time, place the socket over the top of the glow plug and turn it counterclockwise to remove.
Clean the threads of the glow plug with solvent and a rag.
Set your voltmeter to "Ohms" (Ã ©) and touch the electrodes of the voltmeter to the glow plug.
Check to see if the resistance shown on the meter indicates "Ã ". If it does, then the plug is defective. If the glow plug shows resistance that is approximately less than 5 Ã ©, then the plug is not defective.
Repeat above steps for each glow plug.

I assume you mean the gas filter

you need a 13/16 open end wrench and a 5/8 line wrench to remove the lines from the filter.

Be carefull of the fuel that will come out. Use protection on your hands and saftey glasses.
