The a/c seems to work fine. The acturater that directs the flow of air stopped working. It broke about 8 months ago but some how it moved and came out the dash. I live in AZ so that was fine, until we went up north and needed defrost. It moved to defrost but now is stuck. Where is the actuater located within the dash? The truck is duramax diesel if that makes a differnece for the issue. Thanks you guys have been a good help over the last couple of years.

I believe you are looking for a vacuum lean with this problem. Yes, there are actuators behind the dash that are actuated by vacuum. If the vacuum is weak or not working, it will stick in def and not change. Check under the dash for leaks. With the engine running, listen for a hissing. If you are lucky, you may hear a hissing.

Let me know what you find.
