When I turn the key on my 2000 chevy silverado 4.3 v6, it buzzes and then makes no noise. It has a brand new battery and I tried jumping it and the same thing happens?

I'd have to track your starter circuit. The purple wire at the starter solenoid S terminal should be hot with key in the crank position, if it isn't, track the circuit. One possibility among several is the neutral switch. This guide can help as well

Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know what happens.

Electrical problem
2000 Chevy Silverado 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual

We have a 2000 Silverado that the ignition just will not engage the starter. It was working just fine when we were out in it, stopped to fill it with gas and the ignition just refused to work. What could this be? It will turn on the buzzer and the idiot lights just as it always has, it just won't reach the starter.

It could be the ignition switch. Before that, try this test. Have a helper turn the key to the start position while you check for power to the smaller wire on the starter. You should get 12+ volts. If you do, the starter is most likely the problem. If not, then check the starter relay and then we'll move to the ignition switch.

Let me know what you find.

Joe

So just your starter click's and it won't make the engine rotate? If that's the case the first thing you need to do is have the battery tested make sure the battery cable's are clean and tight. Also do you have a multimeter or test light to trace power?

Your going to have to have your battery tested and make sure your battery cables are clean and tight. Also you will have to get a multimeter or test light to see if you have power to the S terminal of your starter with the key in the start position. It sound's like a bad starter but I just want to make sure it's not something else like a bad battery loose or corroded cable's etc. The S terminal wire to the starter are usually purple. What size engine do you have?

2000 Silverado starting problem. 95000 miles. 4.8 liter V-8. Starter just whines and doesn't engage. Though it was starter solenoid. Replaced starter and problem persists. Any ideas?

Sorry for the late reply. Can you remove flywheel cover and watch starter drive gear kick out and engage flywheel? When you removed the old starter were there any shims, did you reuse?
Another thought is your flywheel has a problem, Sometimes you can move flywheel just a little so starter drive gear can engage different flywheel teeth. See if it helps?

My 200 chevy truck has left me in the middle of nowhere twice in last three days! I had no pwer. It wouldn't turn over. I replaced the battery and that seemed to work for a day. Then it happened again. No juice! On day three, I replaced the altnater and battery. Still didn't do anything for it. So today another altnater was put on with a new battery and nothin again. WHAT'S THE PROBLEM HERE DOC? It's driving me (nowhere) crazy! Any help or suggestion woul be greatly appreciated.

First, make sure your battery connections are clean. If so, you might have an issue with your ignition switch. When it acts up, check and see if all your lights have full power. If so, I would check the output voltage on the ignition switch.

Charge the battery and take it to an autoparts store for a load test. It may be bad. Make sure to cleant your battery terminals as well. Usulaly the noise you hear is from low power.

The battery was charged for 6 hours and had 13.15 volts so I checked the positive cable for corrosion but it was clean but the negative cable needed cleaning with a wire brush and I hooked everything back and it started. But I figured this out yesterday before you guys answered my question. I figured the side mount cables usually do not have corrosion problems like the old top mounted battery posts. I just learned a lesson corrosion never sleeps. Thanks lynn

I had a bad strarter and replaced it. Now I still cant get the truck to start. I replaced the battery and still wont start. When I turn the key on the amp hand does not move, the head lights do not kick on like they are susposed to when you first turn the key on. The dome light and the rest of the gauges work but nothing else. I cant get anything. I replaced fuses, cleaned the wires and the place where the starter bolts to the frame I dont know what else to do.

About 6 months ago my truck began having problems, turing the key would do nothing. The radio works and all the electronics, but when the key is turned past on, nothing happens. I messed around with the fuse box and the starter, and when I was about to give up it just started.

This has occured about once a month since then, and now it is getting more common, it happened twice in the last week.

The starter is not making any sound but there is a click in the electronic box in the engine compartment.
