1988 Chevy Silverado 6 cyl Automatic 182000 miles

I am assuming that speedometer cable needs fixed. What I want to know is if someone besides a mechanic can fix this problem. If so, how do you do it?

Some '88 Silverado's were equipped with a VSS type speedometer. If this is the case, the culprit will be a faulty vehicle speed sensor (VSS) located on the transmission. If it is cable driven, you will need to remove the cluster and inspect the cable from behind the cluster and follow it down to the transmission to ensure there are no kinks or damages to it.
