I have a 12 V. Dry cell battery in the back of my truck for secondary power to powers extra equipment that runs continually when the engine is shut off and not generating juice from the truck generator; without draining my main battery that starts my truck engine (For instance: infer-red surveillance cameras).

What I want to know, is how do I hook up an extra 2nd 12 volt dry cell battery to give me extra lasting juice and not increase the voltage to 24 volts?

For example: do I hook the 2 negative posts together or do I hook up the negative post from the 1st rear battery to the 2nd rear battery`s positive post?

You wire all your batteries in parallel circuit.
