O2 sensor location

Where is the bank 1 sensor 2 located?

I just want to say thanks for you information on the O2 sensor location. I had heard conflicting stories. Some said that bank 1 was the bank that the number 1 cyl. Was located on. However there was only 1 sensor on that side at the manifold, then the exhaust pipe crossed over and hook up to the right bank. On the passenger side there three. 1 at the manifold, 1 before the cat, 1 after the cat. So if I understood you correctly then the sensor located at bank 1 one sensor 2 that would be the sensor on the passenger side(right bank) before the converter.

Thanks for all your help.

Hello,

Bank 1 is on the drivers side

Bank 1 Sensor 1 would be in the exhaust manifold or before the catalytic converter.

Bank 1 Sensor 2 would be the next sensor back behind the converter.

Bank 2 Sensor 1 Is the first sensor on the passengers side

Back 2 sensor 2 is the next one back on the passengers side.

Single exhaust would also be in front of the cat the exact location would depend on the design of the exhaust going into the cat, You could just have 3 sensors.

Here is a guide to help you get the sensors changed out.

Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

Cheers, Ken

Bank # 1 is the side of the motor which the number 1, 3, 5, & 7 are on and share the same exhaust manifold. I'am not familar with your particular vehicle so I can't tell you if it is the drivers side or passenger side. ( I think the odd cylinders are on the drivers side) Perhaps you will be able to determine the cylinder layout by using the layout of the igntion wires. As far as determining the senor #2, it is the senor after the catalytic convertor and in your case in bank #1. Hope this helps Backyardmechanic :)

Hi tom
thank you again
need to have the system scanned that will help you pin point what is going on
and direct you in the right direction
as if its o2 sensor you have two O2 sensors and they both located (screwed )on the exhaust system
one before the cat converter and the other after
you need 22mm or 7/8 in wrench or a special socket to remove the sensor
good luck
let me know

we went to AutoZone and did a quick check which indicated that it had to do with the oxygen sensors. What we need to know is on a 2001 Chevy Prism, how many oxygen sensors are there and where are they located. THANKS SO MUCH FOR YOUR ASSISTANCE!

Sorry for the late response.

There are two sensors, both in the exhaust. One located before the convertor, and one after, (term used is "upstream" and "downstream").
