Gas Gauge Problem - 1982 Monte Carlo

I just bought a beautiful 82 Monte Carlo. The only problem I have thus far is that the gas gauge doesnt seem to work. It shows only 'just' under half tank even though I just filled it til its full. Is there an easy fix to this problem or am I going to have to have a mechanic look at this?

If you can remove the fuel tank you can fix it
