There is no adjustment "star" on the chevy metro. You have to open the bleeder on the back of the backing plate and then wrestle the drum off. This model uses a self adjusting mechanism that cannot be backed off.

To loosen the rear brakes and remove the rear brake drum hubs on a 2000 Chevrolet Metro, you'll need to follow these general steps:

Prepare the vehicle: Park the vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake. Place wheel chocks in front of the front wheels to prevent the vehicle from rolling.

Remove the wheel: Use a lug wrench or socket wrench to loosen the lug nuts on the rear wheel. Raise the rear of the vehicle using a jack, support it securely with jack stands, and remove the wheel.

Access the brake drum: Locate the rear brake drum. In some cases, it may be necessary to remove a rubber plug on the back of the brake drum to access the adjustment wheel.

Adjust the brakes: Look for an adjuster wheel between two brake shoes. Using a brake adjustment tool or a flathead screwdriver, rotate the adjuster wheel to retract the brake shoes and loosen the tension. Rotate the adjuster wheel in the opposite direction if needed to provide more clearance for the brake drum to slide off.

Remove the brake drum: Once you have loosened the brake shoes, the brake drum should slide off easily. However, if it's stuck due to rust or corrosion, you may need to apply some penetrating oil around the hub and gently tap the drum's outer edges with a rubber mallet to loosen it.

Inspect and clean: Take this opportunity to inspect the brake components for wear, damage, or contamination. Clean the brake drum, brake shoes, and surrounding area using a brake cleaner spray to remove any dirt or debris.
