Transaxle problems following axle replacement

After replacing both front axles on my 1989 Honda Civic SI, I went to take the car for a test drive and. Nothing. The car will not move. I put the car in gear (1st, 2nd, rev.), Let the clutch out and nothing. What have I done? This is the second time I have replaced the axles using the same procedure (last time I may have done them one at a time, this time both were removed at the same time) with no problems last time. I seriously doubt it is the clutch as the cable is intact, the clutch lever travels fine, and when I let the clutch out, I can hear a slight "whirrring" sound that isn't present with the clutch pushed in. Any help here would be greatly appreciated.
