I have a 1989 ford probe 266,000 miles how can I tell if my rings r blowen and my car is idleing at about 1500 rpms and somtimes it surges up and down while I have the clutch pushed what could cause that

PLEASE HELP!

If your rings are bad it will blow black smoke out the exhaust. The surging could be the IAC valve.
