No Heat

I have no heat. I was told that there is a leak in a gasket in top of motor that is causing air to leak in and therefore causing problems with the heat. It was indicated that this would be a big job $800 to $1000. And that it is common problem with impalas.

do you have any experience with this type of problem? This car has very low milage for its year

That does not sound right, Ive never heard of anything like that and I really do suggest that you get several other opinions, (no dealers). Let look at this guide I think it will help you fix the problem

I had to get my head gaskets done so the dealer was right cost me $900.00 got heat again and saved the engine yay !

Engine Cooling problem
2000 Chevy Impala 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 100k miles

car has no heat, or starts out with a little and turns cold. Also them. Gauge at times shows car over heating, and then will go back to normal. Thermostat and radiator have been replaced and intake was resealed 20k ago. When problem first started radiator fluid was checked and there was a brownish sludge in radiator, it was flushed out twice.

I would double check the coolant level. Thats a sign of low coolant.

The blower blows cold air. Thermostat has been replaced. Coolant levels are OK. Both hoses are hot. Fuses are OK. No leaks have been found. Any idea of where we should look next?

The temperature is controlled by the use of an air mix door that is operated by an electric motor/actuator. This door can be jammed or the actuator can be inoperative or have stripped plastic gears internally.

You may have a faulty thermostat, a partial blockage in the heater core, a faulty heat control valve or air trapped in the core, have all these checked out first.

Step 1 - A heater cannot operate unless the engine is full of coolant/antifreeze. If coolant level is low check the system for leaks.
