Engine Performance problem
1982 Chevy Custom Deluxe 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual 58,000 miles
Chev truck with 250cc, in-line, six cylinder, 2 barrels carburetor. Runs but did notice drop in gas mileage and stalls at idle 60 percent of the time when I stop at intersections. New air filter, plugs, rotor, cap installed last week. The SP wires were changed last year and spark test indicate all plugs are firing. PVC valve still moves! When plugs and filter were changed all were black and sooty. The engine burns no oil at all (55K and own since new). Compression is good on all cylinders. I am thinking my problems are caused by carburetor. Choke runs as advertised. The only adjustment I can find on the carb is for increasing the choke idle speed. I did go through your troubleshooting steps and plan on going back again and look at the vacuum hoses more carefully. Only because over time I have only changed about half the vacuum lines since new (only were changing them when I see them cracking). Any other suggestion? Question: if change the carb, how do I get a carb with adjustments and not an OEM replacement?
