Blower not working

The blower just stopped working. I checked the fuse with it not blown. I did get it to work when I pulled the heater control unit, unplugged and replugged the fan switch, worked for 1 week then stopped again. I figured it was the unit and got a replacement and it still didn't work. Now some people are telling me it's the blower motor resistor. Need some help here!

Hello,

It sounds like you may have a blower motor that is out or fuse # 41. Here are two guides that will help test the fuse and the blower motor with the fuse location and how to change the blower motor in the diagrams below.

Air Conditioning problem

the blower does not come on but now and then has been checked and is good (was told ther is only 1 wire from blower) has new wire harnes new blower restor air compressor good but still will not work blower only comes on ones in awhile will be driving and it kicks on for awhile then kicks off cool air comes from vents just no blower thie is 2004 colorado 4 door 5 foot bed 5cylnder eng (would like a scamatic of air wireing and ground wires if possabile yhank you

Thank you for the donation.

Problem seems to be due to an intermittent power failure. I have sent the schematic and diagniostic files to you. However it must be noted that since problem is intermittent, the test might not be accurate and some wiggling test is required, ie wiggle wire connectors to confirm the terminals are secure.

While the fan is blowing during either heat or AC the fan stops working on allsettings with the exception of high. The fan will start working again later on the lower settings, could it be a bad resister or do I need to replace the switch assembly?

Check to see if power is going to resistor when this happens, if it does replace the resistor. Also check for hot wire harness it may be heating up and losing contact

If you're testing for signal arriving at the resister, it's a ground signal that you're looking for, not power. The motor receives constant 12v.

Very good chance that the blower resistor is bad. Check for power at the resistor going into the resistor and then at the maotor to confirm. The high setting bypasses the resistor.

Electrical problem
2005 Chevy Colorado Engine Size unknown Two Wheel Drive Automatic 56000 miles

I have a 2005 Chev. Colorado Extreme light duty p/u. The blower motor for the a/c and heater has a 4 speed operating switch. When I set the blower motor switch to position 1, 2, &/or 3, the heater - a/c blower motor doesn't work. The blower motor switch turns the blower motor on in position 4 (highest speed) only. I have checked the ground cable to make sure it is grounded good and I have check all plugs to make sure everything is plugged in good.

What do you suggest?

My friend you need a new blower motor resister. Its located right next to the blower motor. They always burn up.

Test the blower motor resistor that's okay -problem is coming from the HVAC control module.

It's probably the cable assembly (gray connector) located directly below the glove compartment storage on the passenger side. It's a known problem and usually is the result of the passenger's foot hitting the cable and causing the wire to short out. If you disconnect the cable and reconnect it, it'll usually work for a while (until it gets hit by a foot).

Sorry fan motor is not serviceable. Sounds like a bushing running dry so replacement is necessary. It is located passenger side underdash in air plenum. It helps to remove glove box.

Should be under the rh side of the dash, below the glove box, near the blower motor. It will more than likely have a 5-6 pin red connector body. Just FYI, if it has not been diagnosed fully, often times what happens is a poor connection at the resistor connector results in heat damage to the terminal, connector body, and resistor. It may need a wiring repair as well. Was very common on the H3 hummer, which is on the same platform as colorado/canyon.
