One morning the car had trouble backing up. Got it going but when I came to a stoplight it would not go again. I thought maybe a pluged trans filter and tried that but nothing. No movement in any gear. The linkage on the trans is moving. I would appreciate any help you could give. Thanks

It looks like you could just be low on fluid or the unit needs to be served here is a guide to help you get the job done.

Transmission problem
1992 Chevy Cavalier 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 151000 miles

I am trouble with my transmission it drove fine yesterday but when I went to the car today to go to work I couldn't back it out of the driveway it was like the car was in neutral. Although it goes in park and drive fine. I figured it was somewhere in the linkage but not for sure. Any help? Where's the linkage at located at on the tranny.

Thanks,

Travis

It is usually controlled by a shift cable. Have someone move through the gears while watching the cable at the trans.
The cable could be loose, or a bracket.

Check fluid level in trans, engine running, in park and trans should be at operating temp.

If you do not see any problems with the cable or fluid level, then have a trans shop check it out.

car goes forward in all gears but the reverse doesn't kick in. A car parts salesman told me that it has switch or solenoid for reverse. What can I do to get this reverse working again? THANK YOU.

You are going to have to take it to your local transmission shop and have them look at it. Sounds to me there is something more serious than just a switch. They may have to drop the trans to access it.
