Engine ideled on 5 cylinders and only dies if you give it gas. I replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter, and fuel pressure regulater. Now it idels good on all six and will rev up to about 2000 rpm if you give it gas slowly. It will hold and run good at 2000 rpm but more gas and then starts missing and tries to die. Ingine will rev to very high rpms by spraying starting fluid and pushing accelerator at same time. Had it to a garage before I started working on it and they checked it with their computer and said every thing that it showed was ok. They segjusted that it probably was the fuel pump. So now filter, pump, and rugulater later it has only improved about 20 percent. Don.T know if this matters but when this started I broke down and had to leave the car overnight and go back for it the next day. When I started it it ran fine so I drove it home. Continued fine for about a month then did it again. After about 2 days of messing with it ( gas dry, looking for vacume leeks, etc.) It started and ran fine again for about an hour then that was it. Hasn't ran right since.

Try unplugging the vacuum line to the MAP sensor and see if that makes any difference. A bad MAP can make an engine run lean or rich.

Well, if the crank sensor fails, that will screw up the firing of the plugs and the fuel injectors. You could pull one injector use a "noid light" or a regular test light to check injector pulse as you raise the rpms. You can do the same thing on a plug wire with a timing light to see if you're dropping spark. Your thoughts?

Try unplugging the little tube/line from the egr valve that goes to the air filter tube, it should be the furthest one when standing in front of the car and runs somewhere underneath the egr valve, . Mine idles on a slow takeoff and when I put it in reverse and stalls, so I took the little line off of the egr valve, ran perfect. Let me know if it works.
