2003 Chevy Blazer OSB 2 connection

Hello, This vehicle has a service engine soon light on, I connect a code scanner and it doesnt power up to scan the computer for the code(s). I also pulled the fuses to reset the "ECM" and the light goes out for about 20 minutes then comes back on.

The S-10 blazer also has an issue with the electronic 4WD selection, it wont engage into 4 hi or lo. Mention these because it could all be related but need to know how and why this connection is not working > Thank you for any assistance you can provide.

Check all fuses with a test light, usually when the OBD connector wont power the scanner it has a blown fuse.As far as the 4wd. try this

BLAZER T-CASE SELF DIAGNOSTIC – Turn ignition for at least 6 seconds.Locate DLC ( diagnostic connector) near right side of steering column. Install jumper wire from pin #13 (orange wire, labels are small but they are on connector, use flashlight) to ground. Turn key on, engine off. Observe shift select buttons. If they all blink once at the same time there are no trouble codes. Otherwise the light will blink (codes are 1-4 flashes) with a 3 second delay between codes if there are more than 1. Run the codes and get back to me with what you find

Hello again,

Had chance to check the fuses and all are ok and there is still no power to the Data link connection to check the service enigine soon codes. This also will not allow me to trouble shoot the 4WD either per your suggestion.

How do I solve this problem with the connector and no power? Thank you

The 4wd doesnt use the power for diagnostic, otherwise it would pop a fuse when grounded.
The OBD-2 connector is powered off the cig lighter fuse.If fuse is good, then there is a break in the wire fom the fuse to the OBD-2 connector (pin 16)

If I power the OSD-2 connector from another source will that work and/or affect anything else on the vehicle?

As long as it is a fused circuit and you hook it up to the correct spot, I dont see what it would hurt
