1999 S-10 Chevy Blazer 4X4

My blazer wont move in reverse. When I placed the vehicle up on jack stands and put the vehicle in drive everything appeared to work but there was a whinning sound present. When I put the vehicle in reverse the same whinning sound was present and the tires moved in a forward motion. Any ideas? Is this a trans problem or a transfer case problem?

Sounds to me you could have a tranny problem.
