I am helping a friend work on his 98 Escort ZX2 with the DOHC engine. He had removed all spark plug wires to do a tune up and now I cannot get the wires back on in the proper order.
I know that the firing order for this motor is 1, 3, 4, 2, but according to the manual the #1 position on the distributor is in the lower right corner. The problem that I am running in to is this:
The longest plug wire will not stretch from the #1 position on the distributor to the number one plug.
Can someone tell me if I am incorrect on the #1 distributor position.
Also, is the firing order on the distibutor clockwise or counterclockwise?

The firing order can't be changed. If it won't start, are you certain the ignition timing is correct?

I'm assuming you have the 1.9 engine. Standing in front and looking at the engine, the cylinders are numbered 1, 2, 3, 4. The firing order is 1, 3, 4, 2. The distributor rotates counter clockwise. The number 1 plug on the cap should be the front right terminal, while looking at it standing in front of the vehicle.
