I have a 2005 Chevy Cavalier that sometimes stalls when driiving at 55 to 60 mph also sometimes it will start and stall, you keep cranking it, it won't start, but if you turn key off and try again it will start and die again, if you pump the gas before dies it wiill run. May run fine for day or two then problem happens again. I changed fuel filter, cleaned IAC valve. I took it to a GM dealer, no codes where found, they suggested replacing instrument cluster and going from there. Do you have any ideas, could it be the BCM module?

Thanks,
Roger Wolf

So there is no code(s) at all!
The computer may think that what is going on come from your input. Or there is problem with the computer itself.
The problem may be in the ignintion switch, a wiggling or lose ignintion switch.
Check voltage at the swicth when the car dies.
Check computer ground, to make sure.

I have a 2004 Chevy Cavalier 2.2 manual trans. Car started shutting off when coming to a stop and when slowing down for sharp corners. Usually starts right back up, sometimes not. When it doesn't start right back up, wait about 5-10 minutes then it will start. Idles extremely rough. Check engine light on from time to time since it started shutting off. Car has been to 3 garages, including a dealership. Checked by 4 different computers. Changed plugs, coil pack, ignition control module, map sensor, throttle position sensor, upstream O2 sensor, ECM changed, Air box changed. Had fuel pressure test done, and also had the catalytic converter checked. The more its driven, the more it shuts off. Suggestions? Is the crank sensor a possibility?

Start off by using a fuel pressure gauge and check the rest pressure for leakdown that could be a leaking injector.
While the engine is running remove the vacuum line to the fuel pressure regulator and see if there is ay fuel in it. Beyond that someone is going to have to use a scan tool to analyze the sensor data to look for something out of parameter.

The cars rpms run so low that when I stop at say a red light then take off again it doesn't want to accelerate. To get it to go even 30mph I have to get it up to 4000 rpm. But it is only sometimes. Once the car get up to about 40mph everything works fine though. The car has even died a couple times at a red light. And when i'm parked and the car is idling it fluctuates around 5000 and 8000 rpms, like it is surging.

Scan for codes, check fuel pressure with a gauge, and clean throttle plate on both sides with choke cleaner.

CEL/SES On

What you need to do here is have the computer scanned for OBD2 codes, there's a problem within the engine management system that caused the light to turn On, this is your starting point of diagnosis

I would definitely have your codes read. While it may be on for the evap problem that you are aware of there also could be other codes showing and you just dont know it. It is always best to fix the problem and delete the codes.
