Car would start and run for about 5 seconds and shut down, mechanic determined defective gas pump and had pump replaced. Car would crank but not start. Mechanic disconnected alternator and car started - after several attempts to start with alternator connected problem persisted. Mechanic determined a defective alternator and sent to competent re-builder of 20 years - alternator fine but low brushes replaced.
My observation: battery was removed from car and used otherwise for two days while pump was sourced - when car would only crank and not start mechanic went directly to alternator and disconnected it. Car had not shown any problems with alternator connected before the pump was replaced.
Car cranks and runs fine with the alternator connected. HELP!
have the same problem?
