I have a 2000 cavalier with the regular 2.2l motor. I'm trying to change the thermostat, and I've seen videos where it's located right below the alternator, so that's the location i'm at right now, where the coolant hose hooks up to. I can not for the life of me get these 8mm screws off of the thermostat housing. It's like they were put on by the force of god. I read somewhere that they are 8mm?
Any tips on what tools to use? Should I try a smaller socket like 7 1/2? I'm no expert on this.
I've already tried 8mm socket and wrench and it just isn't tight enough so it slips. Also tried 5/16 socket with no luck. I don't know what's going on. I also used wd-40 to try and loosen them up some, with no luck. It's very compact where it's located. Any advice?
