Engine Performance problem
1991 Buick Century 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 200000 miles
I have been driving an old 1991 Buick Century Custom for a while now. I have had various problems. Most recently I replaced the alternator and the battery. Sine then my car has been driving fine until today. The other day I was driving the check engine light kicked on and off. But today while I was driving along with no problems about 45 or 50 mph then all of a sudden (check engine light did not come on) the car starts jerking and making griding noises under the hood. But it did continue to drive even though it acted like it wanted to stall. The I had to stop at red light and it died. I put it park and it started again just fine then I put it in drive and the second I changed gears into drive it dies. I did this a few times and got the same results. So I put it in neutral and moved it out of the road. Then I tried again. It started and it drove with no problems until later in the evening. About 3 hours later. And it did all the exact same stuff. What could be the problem. Also the car is running very rich, a heavy oil smell.
have the same problem?
