mine has a clutch connected to the side and nothing connected to the top. Could this cause brake issue?

Hi,
I have a feeling that it is a universal reservoir. The bottom of the reservoir is what goes to the clutch master cylinder. If you have a car with an automatic, the clutch feed isn't needed, and I suspect the pic you have is how it would be used for an automatic. In your case, the top will need to be plugged.
Let me know.
