Engine Performance problem
2000 Audi Quattro 6 cyl Automatic 80000 miles
We were driving in the rain and ran over some large puddles on the road. 15 minutes later, the " Check Engine" light came on. We took it to the Audi service center and they said our catalytic converters were corrupted and that there was a hole in our crank. Water mixed with fuel and damaged the catalytic converter.
My questions are:
a) Is that really possible or is there another possible reason?
b) Could catalytic converters get damaged if you're driving in the rain and over water?
c) They want to charge me $4-$5,000 to replace the catalytic converters. That's pretty much the value of the car today. Are there cheaper alternatives?
