Engine Performance problem
2000 Audi Quattro 6 cyl Automatic 80000 miles
We were driving in the rain and ran over some large puddles on the road. 15 minutes later, the "Check Engine" light came on. We took it to the Audi service center and they said our catalytic converters were corrupted and that there was a hole in our crank. Water mixed with fuel and damaged the catalytic converter.
My questions are:
a) Is that really possible or is there another possible reason?
b) Could catalytic converters get damaged if you're driving in the rain and over water?
c) They want to charge me $4-$5,000 to replace the catalytic converters. That's pretty much the value of the car today. Are there cheaper alternatives?
have the same problem?
