Engine Performance problem
1993 Audi 80 Two Wheel Drive Automatic 142000 miles
Audi 80, 1993 - 5 cylinder, 2.3ltr mechanical injection.
Engine has been playing up & acting strange.
The engine is a little rough on idle, shakes (rocks side to side).
The engine cuts out on full acceleration ie if you put your foot on the gas pedal all the way down it will just cut out, with some clicking noises. The clicking/banging appears to be coming from the direction of the air inlet.
Its weird, the car just doesn't want to achieve full revs & power. It started only doing the problem when cold then intermittently when hot, but now does it constantly.
Accelerator works fine right up to the point where the automatic gear shift should change down a gear to power forward (this doesn't happen).
When you put the car in sport mode you get a little bit more sluggish power which enables higher revs & keeps you out of trouble. But if you accidentally put your foot on the accelerator too far then the motor will just drop power completely.
Would love some assistance in diagnosis.
Does anyone know a good reliable, not too expensive mechanic in the Southern Highlands/Sydney regions?
have the same problem?
