Antifreeze odor in CAB of truck when motor works hard

I get a strong odor that smells like antifreeze when I accelerate the motor to pass other cars or to go up hills. And sometimes I get a form of what looks like steam coming out of the defroster vents in the dash.

It sounds like you have a bad heater core. Check that first.

But the heater seams to be working fine. The odor comes when the AC is on, or when the heater is on, or when both are off. It happens when I accelerate then back off the accelerator, like when going up hills or passing cars.

You could be getting heat, but based on your description, it sounds like a bad heater core.
