Hi, I just recently had my steering rack fixed (2nd time in 2 years).
I took my car out of the dealership and the very next day heard a whinig noise.
I called the dealership back and let them know. I was instructed by an employee to keep driving it at least a week
as their might be 'aeration' in the lines. The noise got worse and worse, and the next week I took it in.
Well, now I am told that the steering pump needs to be replaced, most likely damaged by being run dry. That noise was not present when I brought it in to have the steering rack replaced.
My questions are:
1. Could it have been the steering pump leaking all along and not the steering rack at all?
2. Would air or aeration in the lines cause damage to the pump?
3. Would the pump and fluid levels have been checked when the new steering rack was installed? Should it be checked at that time?
Please let me know
