Our only key to the truck broke apart, with some plastic still attached to the metal part. This meant that the chip was not connecting when we started the truck. Everything was fine just minutes before but when I went to start it, it wouldn't make any kind of sound at all. We then towed the truck to the dealership to make a new key. We asked for a regular key that they could program so the chip would do its job. All this cost $130. This did not work and they said our whole ignition is broken and needs to be replaced $1346 more. Shouldn't we be able to just get a key without buying a whole new ignition?
