2006 Toyota Highlander, 49,000 miles. Car seems to accelerate normally, however when slowing down below 45 or driving downhill at 25, it feels like the car is dragging or trying to downshift as opposed to a normal crusing or gliding to a lower speed. Problem started about 400 miles ago. Is this a developing transmission problem?

It could be. Sounds like valve body from your description. Get an opinion from a trans shop to at least verify your concern

Is that something that is easily repairable or are we talking a transmission rebuild?
