When I turn on the air condition it blows cold air for awhile then the air that's blowing becomes warm.I was told that a coil in the compressor gets hot and turns the air off. Does that sound correct, I also was told that I would need another air compressor. Can you give me some info or advice

Have you had the system recharged lately? Multiple things could be happening that could be fixed without replacing the compressor but that may have to be done too. A lack of oil in the system will eventually cause to much friction causing to clutch to disengage.
