Heater not working properly

Engine comes up to operating temperature and vehicle has no heat in cabin. Other days it heats up just fine. On a day it did not have heat I accelerated very hard and moments later I had heat and continued to have heat that day. Next day no heat.

This is one of two things in my mind. Either the heater core is plugged partially or the blend door actuator is not working all the time. The fact that you accelerated hard and it started working makes me think it is a heater core issue but it could just be a coincidence.

Here are the procedures for both but I would suggest starting with the actuator and go from there.

Hello,

A few days ago my heat suddenly stopped working. The car simply blows cold (very cold) air where a few days ago the heat was working just fine. I do not have the climate control feature in my vehicle so getting codes from it isn't really an option, I don't believe. I have checked the coolant levels and they are fine. I have read a lot about blend doors being broken in earlier years but not so much in 05 and newer.

Any idea what could be causing this and an estimate for repair if I were to take it to a local dealer? (NY) Any help in at least diagnosing this issue would be extremely helpful.

With the engine at full operating temp, locate the 2 heater hoses where they go into the firewall and feel them to see if they are both hot to the touch. This guide can help us fix it

No Heat from heater. The blower/fan works, it's just that the air coming out of the vents (the correct vents) is cold/norm temp. I did change out the thermostat, and did a coolant flush. The engine temps is normal (running at about 210) Please give me any suggestions on what else I can do. Thanks

Hello, I'm Danny
It sounds like you are having an issue with the blend door actuator. It's a small electric motor that opens and closes a door to flow hot air throughout certain air ducts. This actuator is mounted on the hvac box which located under the dash board on the right side. Here is a tutorial showing how to replace the blend door actuator.

When I turn my heater on it will blow warm air for a few seconds and then the air turns cold

Check both heater hoses to make sure they are hot. If they are, check the blend air door. If only one is hot and the other warm and the coolant is full, chances are the heater core needs flushed.

The heater does not put out enough heat to keep the passengers warm.

The thermostat seems to be working right because the temperature gauge stays at 180 degrees when engine is warm.
The fluid level in the radiator is proper.
No leaks were found in the heater plumbing.

So. What could be the problem?

Check to make sure the heater core isn't partially plugged as well as check the blend air doors.

When I turn on heater it blows out cold air on passenger side, but on driver side blows out hot air. Any suggestions?

No suggestion yet, however I have just encountered the same last week the coldest week in western canada its cold, closing the vents on the passenger side it the bandaid im using until I discover the cause, when I do I let you know -horst-
