I have a 2004 Pontiac grand am, and went through a car wash the other day. When I did, the spinning rags in the car wash pulled on the driver side windshield wiper and pulled it up along the glass about 4-6 inches. I tried to use the windshield wipers once clear of the wash, but the driver side only went up a handful of inches and stayed put, getting in the way of the passenger side wiper. I tried moving it manually, and the wiper seems to sweep further than before, but doesn't flop loose. Passenger side continues to work well, but I am hesitant to use it so the blocking driver side doesn't break it. When I lifted the hood everything on the top side looks normal, and when I took off the little plastic cap and the bolt and it didn't appear visibly stripped. I called an auto shop, and they said I had to replace the whole windshield transmission for $400 (including labor). I'm not particularly car savvy, but that seems a bit extreme to me. Do I have any other options?
