We had a similar issues its end up being the MAF sensor
so you are on the right track

Read the guide below on testing wiring

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-check-wiring

The diagnostic chart for the MAF is attached below..

I have a 2000 nissan maxima with 129000 mi. When I start the car it runs smooth, but when I accelerate it has no power, when I engage the cruise control on 65 and go up a hill the cruise control will disingage and I will have to almost come to a stop in order for car to pick up speed again. Your advice please.

Start the car and stomp it if the vehicle does not have a instant rev then the throttle position sensor may be bad

I have a 2000 nissan maxima se with 5 spd manual transmission with 90k miles. The car has been losing power when accelerating past 2000 rpms or accerlating hard. It also occasionally dies when at a complete stop. The code pulled was P1320. I have replaced the spark plugs, MAF, crankshaft position sensor, and all 6 ignition coils. This problem seemed resolved for approx 6 months but has since returned. Any suggestions? Could it possibly the fuel line (pump?) Thanks.

I have nissan maxima 2000 SE. Here are problems I observed:
1. When the engine is cold (especially in the morning time), its always takes time to idle. I have to restart severally and follow up with steady acceleration before it can idle well. It also shoots at the exhaust when I try to fire. Most times idling is normal when the engine is hot.

2. When I start the car and move, it shifts and runs well especially on a straight or descending road. But when I apply brake and want to accelerate again, it won't be responsive and will be very sluggish to move. This is always worse when I am running on an ascending road. It will seem as if the car has lost its power. This sluggIshness will continue until I approach a level or descending points before it can pick up gradually again. When movement becomes sluggish, the RPM does not increase or respond even when I try to accelerate (throttle down).
What I do when movement becomes sluggish is to pull over, put off the engine and restart again. When I do this, the movement and shifting will come back to normal again until I apply brake again while in motion.

Please, any idea of what could be the cause and solution? Thanks.

The first thing I would do is check the computer for stored codes and post the numbers here. We will go from there.

Hi jasalec,

Check for low ATF level. If the ATF looks dark, you might have a clogged strainer.

When we have been driving, sometimes all warning lights have come on, and car loses power. We have pulled over, turned engine off, started it back up, and the only light to stay on is check engine light, which went off after about a week. This happened a couple of times. About 2 weeks ago, we noticed that after we turned off the car, the lights on the back of the car stayed on, as if we were pushing the brake down. My husband disconnected the battery and when we went to drive again, the lights were off when he reconnected the battery. We were driving on the freeway about 2 weeks ago, and all the dash lights came on again, and all of the gauges dropped (mph, rpm, etc.) Like the car was off. The a/c controls weren't working, and the radio wasn't working either, but car was driving fine. Drove home on back roads, and the car just lost power, we pulled over, stopped the engine and tried to restart- it took a few tries, but finally restarted after pumping gas. This happened a couple of time in the 10 minutes it took to try to get home. We got the car home, disconnected the battery, and haven't tried to start since. We are about 40 miles from any Nissan dealership, and were hoping that it might possibly be something that we could try to do before having the car towed. Any ideas what may be wrong? Thanks. Carrie

2003 nissan maxima runs find until lately. Car loses power and will only go about 4mph. After pulling over and letting it sit, it will run fine. It does not do it all the time, but it is getting more frequent. What do I need to look at for repair.

Could be caused by one of the following below

Oxygen sensor.
Catalytic converter.
Fuel injectors dirty/sticking.
Mass airflow sensor/Airflow meter.
Throttle position sensor.
Crankshaft position sensor
Knock sensor
Manifold absolute pressure sensor.
EGR Valve
Fuel pressure regulator leaking or defective fuel pump.
Fuel contamination.
Foul/defective spark plugs.
Open spark plug wires.
Ignition coil/Coil packs defective.
Incorrect ignition timing.
Cap and rotor.

Note:If it doesn't apply disregard it and keep testing.
