2004 Mazda 3

My 2004 Mazda 3 has recently had trouble shifting gears. Twice now it an AT warning light has come on and the car wont shift into 4th gear when I first start driving. I get that this is probably my transmission but is it something that can be fixed or do I need a new transmission? Also, am I damaging my car more by continuing to drive it (I dont drive it when the light is on I just turn my car off and restart it and the light and problem seem to go away)?

Depends on the code set. Could be as simple as a shift solenoid. Or if its an incorrect gear ratio you are looking at having it rebuilt.
