This vehicle has a lifetime fuel filter built into the fuel sender inside the tank and thus is not serviceable separately. The fuel filter is not a replaceable part. If you do have a filter this video shows the job being done on a similar car but the process is the same.

Here is a guide to help you step by step with instructions in the diagrams below to show you how on your car.

Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

This fuel filter is not in the tank, this is not a returnless fuel sys. 05-to present is in the tank, this one is located on the frame rail below the drivers seat mounted on the frame. 04 was the last year for external fuel filter.

Hello, I'm Danny.

Here is the information you requested. If your Tahoe is a standard gasoline 5.3L engine the fuel filter is incorporated in the in-tank fuel pump assembly and thereby non serviceable. if your Tahoe is a Flex Fuel equipped 5.3L engine than there is an external fuel filter which is mounted on the left side frame rail and can be replaced. If the 8th digit of your VIN - vehicle identification number is the letter Z then you have the Flex Fuel option on your Tahoe and is thereby serviceable. Here is a tutorial showing how to replace an external fuel filter:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-change-a-fuel-filter

Here is a YouTube video showing how to replace an external fuel filter on a 2004 Tahoe with Flex Fuel filter:

The databases are not always correct. The one I looked at says, under the vehicle, driver side, attached to the frame rail, near gas tank. May be attached to inside of frame rail. Do not take any fuel lines loose without being sure there is no pressure on the fuel system.

This procedure requires the use of tool J-46363, Fuel Line Release Tool, or equivalent.

Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Relieve the fuel system pressure.
Raise the vehicle.
Remove the fuel composition sensor bracket nuts and reposition it aside.
Clean all the fuel filter connections and the surrounding areas before disconnecting the fuel pipes in order to avoid possible contamination of the fuel system.
Using a flare nut wrench and backup wrench disconnect the fuel line fitting from the fuel filter.
Use the Fuel Line Release Tool, J46363, or equivalent to disconnect the quick connect fittings as follows:

Pull the quick connect fitting back until the internal retainers hit the filter stop.

Twist one end of J-46363 and insert it between the fitting and the filter

Twist the opposite end of the tool and insert it between the fitting and filter

Once tool J-46363 is inserted, make sure it is parallel to the filter and fitting.

While holding the filter, push the fitting toward the filter in order to disconnect the quick connect fitting.

Remove the fitting from the filter. Remove the tool from the filter.

Slide the fuel filter from the bracket.
Inspect the fuel pipe O-rings for cuts, nicks, swelling, or distortion. Replace the O-rings if necessary.

To install:

Slide a NEW fuel filter into the bracket.
While holding the filter, push the fitting towards the filter in order to connect the quick connect fitting.
Using a flare nut wrench and backup wrench connect the fuel line fitting to the fuel filter.
Position the fuel composition sensor/bracket into place and secure with the bracket nuts. Torque the nuts to 13 ft. Lbs. (17 Nm).
Lower the vehicle
