Blower motor keeps running?

Went to work in the morning and it had rained over night and my car was wet. Turned on the fan for my heater and got nothing. Still had heat but fan wasnt running. Than I smelled burning electronics and a little smoke came out of one of my vents. So naturally im thinking something shorted out. Checked the 30amp fuse under the hood and it was blown. Replaced the fuse with my car turned off(keys werent even in the ignition). The second I put the fuse in, my blower motor was blowing air on high without the car having the keys in it. Put the keys in turned the car on tried selecting a different speed setting on the fan and it just stays on high even with the fan set to off. I have to either unplug the blower motor from under the glove compartment or take out the fuse to get the motor to stop running even if my car is running or doesnt have the keys in it. The burning smell was very strong so I think whatever shorted out and fried is inside the car. I also checked all my fuses related to the climate control system and fans and there were all good. Im thinking it could be my blower motor resistor. Any ideas on what the problem might be?

There is a blower motor speed controller that has shorted out which causes the blower motor to stay on. This happens when the blower motor needs to be replaced because it is overloading the speed control module which is right next to the blower motor. Here is its location so you can get it replaced. It is right next to the blower motor. Diagram (below) Please let us know what happens.

Im having the same problem with my impala base model. I replaced the blower motor and that did not fix the problem. I disconnect the fuse or plug to the resister to shut off the blower. So what else could it be? I pulled my climate control cluster and don't know where to go from there. I disconnect it and the blower is still running. Please help me

Hi DARIUS,

It sounds like it is a blower motor speed control module. Here is a wiring diagrams so you can do some testing with a guide as well. The blower motor is at the bottom of the second diagram.

Air Conditioning problem
2000 Chevy Impala 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 54000 miles

If I put my A/C fan on the 4 or 5 setting, then try to turn it down, the blower stays on the high setting. Even when the car is turned off and the key out of the ignition, it still blows.

The only way I've found to get it turned off is to remove the blower fuse and put it back in.

It seems to happen only when the fan is on the higher settings.

I believe it's part of the blower motor control module which is attached to the blower motor, that is behind the passenger side dash so yes it is difficult to access.

I have a 2004 Impala and last week my heater fan went on high and I can't turn it down. When I turn off the car it continues to run.

Electrical problem
2001 Chevy Impala 6 cyl Automatic

This morning I drove to work, 90 minute drive. When I turned off my car, the heater/AC fan continued to run. After playing around with teh key and controls, I finely disconnected the battery. (The fan stopped).
When I re-attached the battery, the fan started again.
The speed control does not work now, but the remainder of the climate controls function properly.
I was hoping for maybe a relay, but there are none.

It sounds like some sort of short, but from where. I is just bypassing the control switch.
Any suggestions

It is most likely caused by your blower motor resistor. It is located under the passenger side of the dash by the blower motor. See if it is burnt and shorting out.

the blower motor does not shut down after the car is shut off, it just keeps running. What is the problem

First inspect the relay. If relay is OK, check the blower module. If blower is now running with key off, remove main connector, if it turns off then you need to replace the blower module.

Where is the blower motor relay. I turned the heat on this morning and when I got out I turned it back off but I could still here the blower running I changed the fuses but that was not the problem even when I turn the car off the blower is still running!

There is a blower control module that goes on leaving the blower motor running here is the location so you can change it out in the diagrams below. Check out the diagrams (Below). Please run this test and get back to us.

The previous owner had installed an aftermarket stereo system and powered straight off of the fuse box under the hood. Other than having to power the stereo off after switching the car off, this did not seem to be an issue. But I noticed that the heat/AC fan switch works even with the car switched off. Also noticed that the indicator light on the Recirculate or Outside Air switches stay lit after the car is turned off as well. The seller did tell me that something was draining the battery and I suspect this has something to do with it. Where do I begin to trace this down and fix. I am not a mechanic, but would like to know where to start. Thanks

That sounds like your drain. You may have to take it to the dealer and have a code scanner put on it. Sounds like the BCM (body control Module) is keeping it on.
