Hi, How come when you charge up a battery indoors you connect both + and - to the battery, yet if you are using it while the battery is in the car or even a set of jump leads you have to connect the one negative to the chassis? Of the flat car?

Do you
have the same problem?

EVER HEAR OF SOMEONE LIGHTING THEIR CIGARETTE LIGHTER NEAR THE BATTERY TO LOOK AROUND IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT?

BOOM!

MR. BATTERY 'SPLODES!

WELL

IN A PERFECT WORLD WHERE EVERYONE DOES EVERYTHING CORRECTLY

YOU WOULD HOOK THE POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE UP TO THE SLAVE/ (GOOD CAR!) FIRST.

SO THE "SLAVE" NOW HAS TWO WIRES ON IT, BASICALLY DOING NOTHING, NO DRAW AT ALL (SO THERE WAS NO SPARKING WHEN YOU HOOKED 'EM UP)

THEN WE GO TO THE DEAD/ WEAK BATTERY CAR

WE HOOK POSITIVE CABLE TO POSITIVE BATTERY TERMINAL (STILL, NO POWER DRAW, NO SPARKS)

NOW WE GOTTA HOOK UP THE NEGATIVE, WHEN WE DO, THERE WILL BE A POWER DRAW FROM THE DEAD/ WEAK BATTERY. THERE WILL BE A SPARK OR SPARKS!

AT THE NEGATIVE BATTERY POST OR ON THE CHASSIS (WHICH IS CONNECTED TO THE NEGATIVE BATTERY POST? HERE'S THE DILEMMA!

DO WE WANT TO HOOK IT TO THE BATTERY, RIGHT IN THERE WITH A POSSIBLE A BUNCH OF HYDROGEN GAS EMITTED FROM THE BATTERY?

OR DO WE WANT TO BE A BIT FURTHER AWAY FROM THAT, WHEREAS SOME FRESH AIR MIGHT BE A BUFFER BETWEEN YOU AND THE BATTERY WHEN WE HOOK UP TO THE CHASSIS?

THIS MIGHT HELP YOU DECIDE!

REMOVAL WOULD BE REVERSE ORDER!

HELP ANY?
