I recently took my 2003 Vauxhall corsa to a mechanic as it was starting very shakily. The mechanic stated that the idle control module was causing the problem. He supplied, fitted and tested the ICM. However, the fitting of the new ICM caused the Engine Control Unit to blow, which meant that he had to replace the ECU also. To my knowledge the ECU was fine before I took the car in for repair. It seems unfair that I should have to pay for the ECU supply and fit also. Please could you advise? Should the mechanic have taken steps to avoid damage to the ECU?
