THIS 2003 PROTEGE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION IS ...

This 2003 protege (automatic transmission) is making a low grinding/vibration noise as I approach 2000 rpm. The noise only occurs on the first two gears, and then disappears completely. I have tried the accelerator while in park, while holding the brake with the gear-shift in "drive", and at the higher gears, but the noise only occurs while in forward motion as I approach 2000 rpm in the first couple of gears. I'm feeling mighty suspicious about my transmission at this point.

She is going in for fluid and filter changes tomorrow, but is there something specific I can get my mechanic to look at? Please keep in mind that this happens ONLY while in drive, not when parked or idled.
Thanks in advance for any help!
