My car just had water pump, timing belt and valve cover gasket replaced. A month later my car over heated. Now the say it has no compression. Could they have caused problem.

I did not see any white smoke. The radiator overflow tank was boiling. Even if this was a previous problem. Wouldnt they be able to tell before doing $600 repair?

First they have to determine what caused the overheat. They could have given it back to you with a small leak.
